Phantastic!

For this 10 day trip our passengers were made up of a group of divers from Underwater Phantaseas  in Colorado (www.underwaterphantaseas.com), divers from Ohio, Washington, Virginia, California, Navada and amongst all those Americans, a Kiwi (no, not me, a lovely lady from Wellington).

The trip was a blast.  We all got on so well and the diving as always was fantastic (or phantastic perhaps?)

We started with the first two days diving on the Venua Levu Barrier Reef where we had a nice wreck dive, saw some turtles, watched some cleaning stations and marveled at the health of the reef.

After a day at Vatu-I-Ra diving the soft coral slopes and pinnacles moved to Makogai for a great day of critter hunting and a visit to the clam raising village.  The people of Makogai are employed by the Fijian government to raise giant clams for redistribution to areas where they have been over harvested.  They grow slowly but the project is doing well and many clams have been and continue to be relocated to reefs all throughout the country.

From there it was on to Namena Marine Park for sharks, big schools of fish and the most colourful reefs you could picture.  We were lucky enough to have a Hammerhead swim right by almost all of the divers.  Nice of the shark to give us all a good look before retiring back to the depths.

Gau was great with loads of Grey Reef Sharks at Nigali Passage and Mantas on both Jim’s Alley and Anthias Avenue.

In Wakaya he Rock Mover Wrasses were out and about, along with a big friendly octopus on Vatu Vai.

All in all a fantastic voyage.  Great to have you guys on board and we hope to see you all again!

“NAI’A made a believer out of me! Fiji has been grossly underrated by both divers and scientists. Incredible fishes here and definitely worthy of protection.”
